Pictures from Casa Cautano

In order from the top: bedroom; bathroom (lower left corner = picture of an old fashioned bidet); front of house; picture on wall (look at this picture closely - can you tell what it is?!); courtyard fountain. The courtyard fountain is marble, and was ordered from Italy by the founder of Guayama for the town square. But when it came he thought it was too small for the town square so he just kept it and put it in his personal courtyard. He ordered a different, larger one for the town square!

Hi! Some of these places remind me of Hearst Castle in CA and Scotty's Castle in Death Valley. There must have been a "fad" for wealthy people to want the European look, and to get the look, they just imported the real thing--whole ceilings, whole wall coverings, fountains, sculptures, whatever! Quite amazing. When did replicas become popular? Oma

Actually, according to the caretaker of Casa Cautano, the original owner of the house was a genuine European - of Spanish and Polish heritage.
